Bayside Health was formed following the merger of Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health, Gippsland Southern Health Service, Kooweerup Regional Health Service and Peninsula Health on 1 January 2026.

The Team & Role

The Paediatric Registrar works in an inpatient environment within Children’s ward, SCN, Birthing and ED as well as attending deliveries and theatre when required. The Registrars roster is a 7-day rotating roster across all shifts including night duty and weekends. The Registrar also works across a wide variety of clinics.

The role is accredited for Advanced Training – General Paediatrics with Perinatal Medicine and is also available as an unaccredited role.

This position is open to both basic, continuing basic, and advanced trainees.

Support is available for junior registrars (minimum 6 months NICU plus general paediatric experience) wishing to undertake this role.

*Continuing Basic Trainees are those who have completed the time-based training requirements but have other requirements, such as examinations, to complete before progressing to Advanced Training.

This position suits those with neonatal and general paediatric HMO experience wishing to gain experience at registrar level and a limited number of opportunities exist for IMG candidates seeking peer review or local equivalent experience in perinatal medicine.

Candidates for the IMG pathway must be able to demonstrate suitability for RACP partially comparable pathway/top-up training and be eligible for immediate Provisional AHPRA registration with a minimum of level 3 supervision.

Skills & Experience Required

We anticipate you will have: 

• MBBS or equivalent
• Current general or provisional registration as a Medical Practitioner (AHPRA Level 3 supervision minimum) or eligible for this type of registration
• Minimum 6 months Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience with 12 months General Paediatric experience as an HMO in paediatrics.
• RACP advanced training or continuing Basic training in Paediatrics or desire for experience to commence training in Paediatrics
• Relevant experience in clinical management in Paediatrics and Neonates
• Sound clinical knowledge, skills and experience in contemporary medical and evidence-based practice
• Ability to work as an effective member of an inter disciplinary team
• Holds/eligible for a current Working with Children check card.
