Bayside Health is a public health service delivering high-quality care across every stage of life for close to 1.2 million people living in metropolitan Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula, Koo Wee Rup, Bass Coast and Southern Gippsland.

We have more than 15 main stes, including hospitals, centres and clinics that provide comprehensive care from welcoming newborns to supporting older people and a full range of services in between.

More than 22,000 dedicated staff are focused on providing exceptional, equitable, and locally connected care through shared expertise, compassion, and a commitment to continuous growth. Education and training are central to staff development as we encourage all employees to strive and thrive.

Bayside Health was formed following the merger of Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health, Gippsland Southern Health Service, Kooweerup Regional Health Service and Peninsula Health on 1 January 2026.

The Team & Role

The Psychiatric Assessment and Planning Unit (PAPU) is a 6 bed, 24 hour, 7 day a week mental health short stay assessment and planning unit for the provision of accelerated access to specialist psychiatric assessment and short term treatment. Ideally, the care provided should be of less than 72 hours to allow for the determination of appropriate clinical pathways. The role of PAPU is to ensure that clients receive timely access to short term assessment and planning care and treatment where required and to minimise the need for an acute inpatient stay by ensuring that clients can be adequately and appropriately supported in the community.

The Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) is a valued member of the leadership team at Peninsula Health, committed to upholding Peninsula Health’s values and meeting organisational goals. The ANUM supports the Nurse Unit Manger (NUM) and when required acts in their role to provide effective leadership and management of the Ward. The ANUM oversees the delivery of safe, evidence based, person centred care to achieve optimal health outcomes. To ensure clinical safety and continuity of patient centred care there is a requirement that all ANUM positions be a minimum of 0.6 EFT.
