What You Will Be Doing
Carinya is a 26 bed purpose built Aged Persons Mental Health residential Care Facility designed to provide high level specialist nursing care to residents with complex mental health diagnoses who are unable to be managed effectively in a generic aged care facility.
The Diversional Therapist (DT) is responsible for the development and implementation of diversional therapy and activity programs for resident living at Carinya Public Sector Residential Aged Care Facility. Carinya is a specialist mental health home caring for persons living with a mental illness, living with dementia, or living with changed behaviours.
The DT is a valued team member responsible for overseeing the activities, leisure and lifestyle program for residents, enhancing their psychological, social and physical well-being. Each resident will have a person centred, tailored plan designed with the resident, the DT, the residents family / carers and supporters.
Programs may include reminiscence, arts, crafts, positive sensory stimulation and engagement in meaningful occupation through social and creative group activities and 1:1 person centred activities.
The role also ensures compliance with the Aged Care Quality Standards.

What You Need
We anticipate you will have:
- Certificate IV qualification in Leisure and Health or equivalent
- Demonstrated ability to deliver programs to older adults with dementia, cognitive impairment and changed behaviour
- Ability to work with individuals and groups utilising diversional and meaningful activities based on resident needs and preferences
- Ability to contribute to resident care plans as part of the multidisciplinary team
