The Team & Role

The Clinical Coding Trainer/Educator is responsible for facilitating the training and development of new Clinical Coders and Health Information Managers (HIMs), while supporting the delivery of a high-quality Clinical Coding Service. The role provides education and expert guidance on disease and procedure classification, coding standards, auditing, funding, documentation requirements, and related policies and procedures. Working collaboratively with Coding Trainers, managers, and the broader coding team, the position develops and implements training programs, contributes to quality improvement initiatives, supports coding accuracy and compliance, undertakes clinical coding and auditing activities, and assists in the delivery of coding service functions. The role maintains current knowledge of relevant coding standards and reporting requirements, supports the achievement of coding deadlines and performance standards, and contributes to the ongoing improvement of coding education, data quality, and service outcomes.

Skills & Experience Required

• Possess specialised knowledge in and work in an area of their profession (clinical, educational, research and/or managerial) recognised as requiring high levels of specialist knowledge  
• Understanding of Department of Health (DH) data reporting requirements, such as VAED.
• Bachelor or Masters of Health Information Management
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in DH Criteria for Reporting
• Familiarity with medical record systems, including computer systems – IPM, iMedX and Cerner  (desirable)
