What You Will Be Doing  

 

Peninsula Health is a leading tertiary teaching and research health service affiliated with Monash University. The Department of Geriatric Medicine at Peninsula Health is a growing and vibrant unit with a commitment to becoming one of the leading such units in Victoria. The faculty consists of fourteen geriatricians (sessional/full time) who are substantially invested in ensuring trainees achieve their goals, with representation on the RACP Advanced Training Committee in Geriatric Medicine and the ANZSGM Vic Committee.

Peninsula Health is part of the South Eastern Training Alliance. We are accredited for 24 months of core training in Geriatric Medicine with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP). Trainees have the exciting opportunity to work across a wide range of services offered by the department:

 

  • Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE) Unit (Frankton Hospital)
  • Orthogeriatric service (Frankston Hospital)
  • Geriatric Consult Service (Frankston Hospital)
  • GEM Units (The Mornington Centre) – 3 GEM Units specialising in dementia/delirium care, stroke rehabilitation and general/orthopaedics rehabilitation.
  • Better at Home Service  – this service incorporates a ‘Journey to home’ component which includes assessment and care planning of older patients in the acute hospital and a ‘Care at home’ component which incorporates providing medical input into the care of the older patient within the community, in their home.
  • Palliative Care Unit – A rotation to the Palliative Care Unit for 3 or 6 months can be offered to interested candidates.

 

Additionally, a full complement of specialty and general clinics are offered to trainees including Cognitive Dementia and Memory Service (CDAMS) Clinic, Falls & Fracture Clinic, Urodynamics Clinic, Chronic Wound Clinic and Geriatric Medicine Clinic.

All registrars participate in on-call shifts

What You Need 

 

We anticipate you will have: 

  • MBBS degree (or equivalent)
  • Eligible for registration with AHPRA as a medical practitioner
  • Have a minimum of 2 years postgraduate training
  • Have joined or otherwise eligible to join the RACP training program
  • Sound clinical knowledge, skills and experience in contemporary medical and evidence based practice
  • Ability to work as an effective member of an inter disciplinary team
