Bayside Health was formed following the merger of Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health, Gippsland Southern Health Service, Kooweerup Regional Health Service and Peninsula Health on 1 January 2026.

 

Peninsula University Hospital recently opened following an extensive renovation including a new state of the art tower, and expansions to the Emergency Department. This includes a dedicated Paediatric Emergency zone which is expected to be operational in 2026. Candidates interested in Paediatric Emergency Medicine are encouraged to apply 

 

The Team & Role

 

  • Provide medical care of critically ill patients under direction of the Senior Medical Staff.
  • Ensure treating specialist is appraised of all significant changes in any patient under their care.
  • Proactively deal with Patient Safety, Clinical Risk (including involvement in Mortality Review for all patient deaths under their care), Quality Improvement, Customer Relations, and Infection Control issues as they relate to patients under their care: including the specific notification of all Incidents or Near Misses relating to patients under their care.
  • Initiate, implement and monitor management of patients under supervision, incorporating appropriate testing and investigation.
  • Support the development of an evidence-based medicine (EBM) approach with their patients.
  • Support the development of relevant research activities; and ensure that all proposed research proposals are forwarded to the Human Research Ethics Committee for approval
  • Support implementation of an education program for Residents, Interns and medical students in conjunction with the Manager Medical Workforce Unit, Director of Clinical Training and Monash University staff.
  • Regularly attend, actively participate in service meetings and clinical audit activities convened by the Clinical Director, multidisciplinary team members or Education lead.
  • Demonstrate positive workplace behaviours and relationships at all times

Skills & Experience Required

 

  • MBBS or equivalent 
  • Ability to work as an effective member of an inter disciplinary team
  • Sound clinical knowledge, skills and experience in contemporary medical and evidence-based practice
  • Australian and New Zealand trained Medical Graduates: General Registration with AHPRA and who have completed a minimum of 4 years full time medical employment post registration, with at least two years in the Australian or New Zealand hospital system as well as minimum of 6 months experience in Critical Care Medicine
  • International Medical Graduates: Limited/Provisional Registration with AHPRA (Successful completion of AMC MCQ Part 1 and Part 2) who has completed a minimum of 4 years full time medical employment post registration with at least two years in the Australian or New Zealand and a minimum of one year experience in Critical Care Medicine

 

In addition, preferred criteria include:

  • Registration as a trainee with College of Intensive Care Medicine
