What You Will Be Doing 

 

Peninsula Health offers Hospital Medical Officer (PGY2) positions suitable for applicants who will hold General Medical Registration with AHPRA by February 2026.

 

This Hospital Medical Officer (PGY2) placement is designed to provide appropriate exposure and experience to enable the junior doctor to consolidate their learning from their PGY1 year, and attain the required skills and knowledge relevant for each rotation. Skills progression should assist the PGY2 to meet the entry requirements for specialist training programs.

Under the direction of more experienced medical staff, primarily registrars, and through collaboration with other health professionals, the resident provides effective appropriate medical care commensurate with their capabilities and in accordance with delegated clinical privileges that vary from site to site. Each rotation in PGY2 will be provided Term Descriptions, Term Supervisor, Primary Supervisor and day to day Supervisor with which completion of Mandatory assessments will be completed as per the NFPMT.  

 

Hospital Medical Officer (PGY2) certificate of completion will be awarded following 4 successful rotations.  The Hospital Medical Officer (PGY2) incorporates a large variety of rotations including:

  • Emergency
  • General Medicine
  • Paediatrics
  • O&G
  • Psychiatry
  • General Surgery
  • Orthopaedic Surgery
  • Cardiology
  • ICU
  • Anaesthetics
  • Geriatric Medicine
  • Rehabilitation

 

The Hospital Medical Officer (PGY2) will be able to preference rotations in their areas of interest and be assigned a relieving term which will incorporate annual leave and annual leave cover during the year.

What You Need

  • MBBS or Equivalent
  • General Registration with AHPRA as a Medical Practitioner
  • Satisfactory completion of a recognised Intern program (PGY1)

 

Please note: This position will be based at Frankston and Rosebud Hospitals. However, as part of your employment with Peninsula Health, you may be required to work across all our Peninsula Health sites to meet service needs.
