We offer an excellent training experience, with all of the required rotations to complete training, and offer subspecialty rotations or training experiences in Addiction Psychiatry, Infant Child and Youth Psychiatry, Psychotherapy, Aged Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry, and Private Hospital Psychiatry.
The Team & RolePsychiatry Registrars are medical practitioners training in the specialty of Psychiatry under the auspices of the RANZCP Fellowship Training Program. The Registrar will work within a multidisciplinary team. Their performance is supervised and monitored by full time and fractional Consultant Psychiatrists to ensure they are entrusted with responsibilities commensurate with their capabilities and in accordance with delegated clinical privileges that vary from site to site.
Under direction, the Registrar reviews the general medical needs of the patients and provides appropriate care and services to secure optimum health outcomes. Depending on the rotation, this may include daily review of inpatients, participation in wards rounds and coordination of discharge planning on wards, regular review of patients in community mental health clinics or consultation assessments within the general hospitals, emergency department or in the community with an integrated community care model. The registrars are responsible for completing appropriate ward/community paperwork, discharge summaries/letters and legal paperwork required by the Mental Health & Wellbeing Act, plus attendance at the Mental Health Tribunals as required. The position involves both in-hours and regular on-call / out-of-hours duties.
The Registrar also has a vital role in teaching and supporting Resident Medical Officers and Interns.

Skills & Experience Required
- Be approved for training or have applied for training with the RANZCP via PMVC/VPTC.
- MBBS or equivalent.
- General Registration as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA.
- Psychiatry experience prior to transitioning to First year Registrar commencing in 2027
- Relevant experience in clinical management.
- Sound clinical knowledge, skills and experience in contemporary medical and evidence based practice.
- Ability to work as an effective member of an inter-disciplinary team.
- Teaching skills.
- Demonstrated effective communication skills, including ability to work within multidisciplinary team.
