We have more than 15 main sites, including hospitals, centres and clinics that provide comprehensive care from welcoming newborns to supporting older people and a full range of services in between.

More than 22,000 dedicated staff are focussed on providing exceptional, equitable, and locally connected care through shared expertise, compassion, and a commitment to continuous growth. Education and training are central to staff development as we encourage all employees to strive and thrive.

Bayside Health was formed following the merger of Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health, Gippsland Southern Health Service, Kooweerup Regional Health Service and Peninsula Health on 1 January 2026.

The Team & Role

Peninsula Health is a leading tertiary teaching and research health service affiliated with Monash University, offering exceptional training opportunities for Advanced Trainees in Geriatric Medicine. The Department of Geriatric Medicine is a growing, vibrant unit with a strong commitment to becoming one of the leading geriatric services in Victoria. The department is supported by a faculty of fourteen geriatricians (sessional and full time) who are highly invested in trainee development and ensuring trainees achieve their professional and academic goals. In addition, trainees are well supported in research, quality improvement, and system-based initiatives by an established and active research team.

Trainees gain comprehensive inpatient experience across a range of services, including the Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE) ward and an Orthogeriatric service based at Peninsula University Hospital, as well as three 30-bed Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM) wards located at The Mornington Centre. Beyond inpatient care, there are valuable opportunities to develop community-based skills through the “At Home” services program, alongside exposure to a subacute geriatrics consultancy service at Peninsula University Hospital. An optional rotation to the Palliative Care Unit is also available for interested candidates, further broadening clinical experience.

A wide range of specialty and general outpatient clinics are available to trainees, including Cognitive Dementia and Memory Services (CDAMS), Falls and Fracture services, Continence and Urodynamics, Chronic Wound Clinic, and General Geriatric Medicine clinics, ensuring well-rounded clinical exposure across the spectrum of geriatric care.

Peninsula Health is committed to fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development, with protected training time guaranteed for all trainees. Trainees are encouraged and supported to attend local and national conferences and workshops, and actively participate in a structured academic program that includes fortnightly Journal Club, weekly Grand Rounds, monthly Morbidity and Mortality meetings, and South Eastern Training Alliance teaching sessions.

The unit has a strong academic focus with significant opportunities to participate in meaningful, clinically relevant research projects. Enquiries about the positions are welcome, and prospective applicants are encouraged to attend pre-match “Meet and Greet” sessions.

*** All positions are appointed through the centralised match process via the Victorian Geriatric Medicine Training Program (VG MTP), and applicants are required to submit an application to Peninsula Health in addition to the central application.
