Bayside Health was formed following the merger of Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health, Gippsland Southern Health Service, Kooweerup Regional Health Service and Peninsula Health on 1 January 2026.
The Team & Role
The Gastroenterology Unit at Peninsula Health currently comprises 16 specialist Gastroenterologists, four advanced trainees (1 accredited), 5 CNCs (2 IBD, 2 hepatology, 1 endoscopy) and specialist gastrointestinal dieticians and pharmacists. The inpatient Gastroenterology service typically has 10-20 inpatients with a similar number of consultation requests. There is a busy interventional endoscopy unit with established services in ERCP, EUS, ESD, double-balloon enteroscopy and Halo RFA along with an Upper GI bleeding and ERCP Emergency Endoscopy service.
In terms of ambulatory care, we currently offer outpatient services in the following areas:
- Hepatology – Steatotic liver disease clinic; Specialist liver clinic (including dedicated autoimmune liver disease and liver mass streams)
- Inflammatory bowel disease – IBD clinic; IBD flare clinic; Nurse-led IBD clinic
- Endoscopy clinic
- General Gastroenterology clinic, Functional GI, eosinophilic oesophagitis and coeliac clinic
The Gastroenterology Unit at Peninsula Health has undergone a period of rapid expansion, which will continue as expand services in our new, purpose-built hospital.
Applications are invited for a 12-month Endoscopy Fellow position in the Department of Gastroenterology. Candidates with full FRACP (or equivalent) and Conjoint Committee accreditation in Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy and third-year advanced trainees are both suitable to apply. Training in advanced endoscopy will be provided, including ERCP, EUS, EMR, ESD, luminal stenting, double-balloon enteroscopy and HALO RFA.
- A service commitment to 2-3 endoscopy lists per week with flexible working to cover consultant leave.
- Participate in General Gastroenterology and Endoscopy outpatient clinics.
- Attend interventional endoscopy lists (5 sessions per week)
- Participate in the Department of Gastroenterology Upper GI bleeding oncall service (JMS or SMS depending on year of training) according to an agreed roster.
- Contribute to education and clinical research within the Unit (including the advanced trainee education program). Involvement in endoscopic research is expected.
- Work in close liaison with Allied Health, senior nursing staff, other medical specialists and other health professionals in a collaborative manner.
- Attend unit meetings/educational activities
- Participate in endoscopic audit and governance
- Other activities as discussed with and agreed to by the Director of Gastroenterology

Skills & Experience Required
- Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent
- Registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner
- Recognised as an accredited Specialist in Gastroenterology Medicine by the Specialist Advisory Committee of the Royal Australasian College Physician
- FRACP or equivalent
- For endoscopy lists:
- CCRTGE (Conjoint Committee for Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy) certification in gastroscopy and colonoscopy ± other advanced endoscopy procedures.
- CCRTGE re-certification in colonoscopy if > 3 years from initial recognition
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), including the ability to work with individuals and families for positive health outcomes and to foster productive working relationships both internally and externally
