Bayside Health was formed following the merger of Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health, Gippsland Southern Health Service, Kooweerup Regional Health Service and Peninsula Health on 1 January 2026.
Peninsula University Hospital recently opened following an extensive renovation including a new state of the art tower, and expansions to the Emergency Department. This includes a dedicated Paediatric Emergency zone which is expected to be operational in 2026. Candidates interested in Paediatric Emergency Medicine are encouraged to apply
The Team & Role
As trainees undertaking this role have higher depth and breadth of experience in ICU medicine, their roles and responsibilities are more advanced when compared to an ICU registrar. Clinical duties include developing and implementing management plans for critically unwell patients, performing relevant procedures, ensure seamless handover with senior clinicians and coordinate care of critically unwell patients, both within and beyond Intensive Care Unit.
As Traditional Year Fellow (TY), trainee will be expected to be first on call for ICU at least one night per week.
TY can choose amongst ultrasound, education, administration and quality assurance as one of key portfolios in which skills can be developed throughout the year.

Skills & Experience Required
- Satisfactory completion of the required clinical training time and assessments for the core intensive care medicine, anaesthesia and medicine years
- Satisfactory completion of the Second Part Examination
- Satisfactory completion of all prescribed courses, learning packages and WBA
- Submission of a Format Project in the format prescribed by the guideline
- Satisfactory exposure to two out of three sub-specialties in:
- Cardiothoracic surgery intensive care
- Neurological / Neurosurgery intensive care
- Trauma intensive care
