Classification: Biomedical Engineer Class 3 (PH8, PH9, HP2)*
On 1st January 2026, five health services (Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service) will come together to create Bayside Health; a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians.
The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1st January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.
The Team & Role
The role of the Biomedical Engineer is to contribute to the life cycle management of medical, surgical, diagnostic and therapeutic equipment at Peninsula Health. This includes planning, implementation, routine, preventative and remedial maintenance and quality assurance testing. The Biomedical Engineer will work under the supervision of the Biomedical Engineer Manager. This position is given significant responsibility and autonomy so it is expected close working relationships will be established with customers in order to have a clear understanding of their needs to that appropriate support can be provided. The Biomedical Engineer is expected to carry out responsibilities and varied professional engineering work, and make independent studies, analysis, interpretation and conclusions. Performs without engineering supervision normal professional Biomedical Engineering tasks and accept technical responsibility for such work. Demonstrate a commitment to continuing professional development and will contribute to workplace training. The position will be an important part of a professional team, will be required to work at various Peninsula Health sites and responsibilities and duties may vary as required in order to meet our customer needs.
Skills and Experience Required
- Bachelor Degree in Engineering (Biomedical)
- Bachelor Degree in Engineering (Electrical), Applied Science or Science with major studies In electronics and biomedical Instrumentation may be considered where the candidate can demonstrate suitable experience or aptitude
- Formal or Informal study of human physiology
- Eligible for membership to Engineers Australia
- Minimum 5 year experience
