More than 22,000 dedicated staff are focussed on providing exceptional, equitable, and locally connected care through shared expertise, compassion, and a commitment to continuous growth. Education and training are central to staff development as we encourage all employees to strive and thrive.

Bayside Health was formed following the merger of Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health, Gippsland Southern Health Service, Kooweerup Regional Health Service and Peninsula Health on 1 January 2026.

 The Team & Role

The Developmental Psychiatry Course (DPC) is a professional development program for new CAMHS/CYMHS/youth mental health staff. In existence for more than 40 years, the DPC provides foundational training in assessment and formulation for staff new to working in child, adolescent and youth mental health. It is run by Mindful, the Centre for Training and Research in Developmental Health, within the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Melbourne. Mindful is the Victorian statewide unit responsible for the delivery of several degree courses and professional development training in child and adolescent mental health.

The DPC’s training model allows participants to access knowledge (via lectures delivered by local and international experts) and to develop clinical skills. Clinical skill development is facilitated by Mindful’s collaboration with Victorian child, adolescent and youth mental health services.

This is a part time role of 8 hours per week and a fixed term contract for 10 months.

The DPC Clinical Educator position is an expert senior clinician role designed to support clinical skill development aligned with the DPC, both to participants working within the Clinical Educator’s service and to participants from other services. This position aligns with the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health Services to support infant, child, youth, and family wellbeing to achieve core capabilities in assessment, formulation, and treatment planning for children, adolescents and young people who are accessing mental health care, particularly in the tertiary public health context. It also aims to address workforce shortages by providing clear clinically-relevant training pathways for staff new to working with children, adolescents, young people and families. These positions have been funded across Victorian Infant, Child, Youth and Family Mental Health and Wellbeing Services at fractions commensurate with those services’ current engagement with the DPC (as reflected by the number of their staff currently enrolled).
