What You Will Be Doing
The Adult Acute Inpatient Unit (Ward 2 West) provides 24-hour, bed based, voluntary and compulsory short-term inpatient treatment for clients experiencing an acute phase of mental illness and/or crisis and who are unable to be cared for safely in the community. Working within a biopsychosocial framework, the multi-disciplinary team provides recovery oriented treatment and interventions focused on transitioning clients safely back into the community.

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) is a Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 5, responsible for clinical mental health nursing, leadership and assisting the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM), Program Manager and Director of Nursing in developing, leading, maintaining and evaluating specialists programs and initiatives with the mental health inpatient services.

The role will also contribute towards an appropriately skilled nursing workforce by providing mentoring and role modelling, particularly to recently employed recruits, with a focus on inpatient nursing development to address priority issues on the wards, which are related to vulnerable and high-risk consumers presenting with high-level needs.

What You Need
We anticipate you will have:

  • Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration
  • Post Graduate Qualification in Psychiatric / Mental Health nursing or completion of a specialist Undergraduate Psychiatric Nursing Program
  • Demonstrated significant problem-solving skills that require considerable understanding and interpretation of facility and departmental policy
  • Vast clinical experience and knowledge in Mental Health inpatient care
  • Demonstrated clinical leadership within mental health with proven ability to mentor and develop the mental health nursing workforce within a coaching framework
