Bayside Health was formed following the merger of Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health, Gippsland Southern Health Service, Kooweerup Regional Health Service and Peninsula Health on 1 January 2026.

The Team & Role

The Clinical Psychology Registrar position is a two-year (one-year for Doctoral level) rotational program designed to support psychology registrars to gain experience working in public area Mental Health and Wellbeing Services (MHWS), with people with severe and enduring mental illness.  This initiative is part of the Allied Health Graduate and Registrar Program aligned to the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Public Mental Health Services recommendations.

The Clinical Registrar Program includes rotations within different teams, settings, and across the clinical areas of Bayside Health Peninsula Care Group MHWS. The clinical areas and teams will be decided collaboratively, based on the clinical registrars’ area of interest, experience needed, team availability, as well as meeting the needs of our consumers and community. Psychology registrars who are currently completing the registrar program are encouraged to apply.

The Clinical Psychology Registrar Program provides a great opportunity to consolidate learning and gain experience working within a multidisciplinary team, within public mental health. The positions include undertaking psychological assessment, formulation, treatment (both individual and group) and to work alongside experienced clinical psychologists. There will be an equitable clinical workload balance, protected time for learning and professional development and to participate in individual and group supervision from a Senior Clinical Psychologist Educator, and board approved supervision, dedicated to the registrar program.  The program is designed to assist Clinical Psychology Registrars in working towards meeting the Australian Psychology Board requirements for their area of practise endorsement.

Peninsula Health Mental Health Service has a supportive psychology department, with diverse areas of speciality including: psychosis, complex trauma and personality disorders, and therapeutic modalities include a particular focus on Mentalization-Based Treatment, Recovery ACT for Psychosis, and other trauma informed approaches. Practice-based research is encouraged and supported and there will be opportunities for involvement with research projects happening within the service.
