Bayside Health is a public health service delivering high-quality care across every stage of life for close to 1.2 million people living in metropolitan Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula, Koo Wee Rup, Bass Coast and Southern Gippsland.
We have more than 15 main sites, including hospitals, centres and clinics that provide comprehensive care from welcoming newborns to supporting older people and a full range of services in between.
More than 22,000 dedicated staff are focussed on providing exceptional, equitable, and locally connected care through shared expertise, compassion, and a commitment to continuous growth. Education and training are central to staff development as we encourage all employees to strive and thrive.
Bayside Health was formed following the merger of Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health, Gippsland Southern Health Service, Kooweerup Regional Health Service and Peninsula Health on 1 January 2026.
The Team & Role
The Psychiatric Assessment and Planning Unit (PAPU) is a 6 bed, 24 hour, 7 day a week mental health short stay assessment and planning unit for the provision of accelerated access to specialist psychiatric assessment and short term treatment. Ideally, the care provided should be of less than 72 hours to allow for the determination of appropriate clinical pathways. The role of PAPU is to ensure that clients receive timely access to short term assessment and planning care and treatment where required and to minimise the need for an acute inpatient stay by ensuring that clients can be adequately and appropriately supported in the community.
Peninsula Health Mental Health Service is committed to the principles of Recovery Orientated Practice. It aims to provide timely and equitable access to a quality service, and actively supports and encourages consumer and carer participation in all aspects of planning and delivery of mental health services. The catchment area includes the former local government areas of Frankston, Chelsea and the Shires of Mornington, Flinders and Hastings.
The Enrolled Nurse (EN) is a valued and integral member of the Peninsula Health multidisciplinary team demonstrating flexibility in caring for patients and their families across the organisation. A PEN is an enrolled nurse who works as part of the specialist mental health nursing team, under the supervision of an RPN.
