On 1st January 2026, five health services (Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service) will come together to create Bayside Health; a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians.
The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1st January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.
The Team & Role
This General/Breast Surgery Consultant role is part time and initially for 12 months with the potential for ongoing appointment.
Peninsula Health delivers surgical services to public patients at two sites: Frankston Hospital and Frankston Public Surgical Centre. Frankston Hospital operates 10 operating rooms, including a dedicated Emergency Theatre and an interventional Vascular suite. Peninsula Health also provides care at Frankston Public Surgical Centre through five operating rooms, including one endoscopy theatre.
The General Surgery department at Peninsula Health has three subspecialty elective units (Upper GI, Colorectal & Breast & Endocrine) and an Acute General Surgery Unit (AGSU). The successful candidate will be appointed to General Surgery 3 - the breast, endocrine and general surgery unit. There may be an opportunity to join the acute general surgery unit depending on experience. Peninsula Health also has surgical units in Orthopaedics, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Gynaecology & Obstetrics, Thoracic Surgery, Ear Nose & Throat Surgery, FacioMaxilliary Surgery and Urology.
General Surgery has 16 General Surgeons and 1 General Surgery Fellow. The successful applicant will be assigned regular theatre sessions and outpatient clinics as well as clinical support time as per the relevant award. Attendance at departmental morbidity and mortality meetings and breast unit MDTs is expected.

Skills and Experience Required
- FRACS (or equivalent) and current CPD certification
- Current Medical Registration with AHPRA Medical Board of Australia
- Post-fellowship training in breast surgery
- Membership of Breast Surgeons of Australia & New Zealand, Breast Cancer Trials, Australasian Society for Breast Disease
