Overview of the Position

An excellent opportunity exists at Peninsula Health (PH) for a suitably qualified pain medicine specialist to be appointed as the Head of Unit for the Persistent Pain service. This person will lead a multidisciplinary team of medical specialists in Pain, Rehabilitation, Addiction and Psychiatry, a newly accredited Pain Registrar, a clinical nurse consultant and allied health clinicians (physiotherapy, occupational therapy and clinical psychology) in managing all aspects of persistent pain with a biopsychosocial patient centered approach.

 

The team provides a ward based consultant liaison service to acute inpatients at Frankston Hospital, attends a comprehensive outpatient pain clinic, participates in a multi-disciplinary pain management program and performs pain procedures in theatre. The Head of Unit role is 50% clinical with 50% clinical support time and is supported by administration staff to assist in managing senior and junior doctors.

 

As the Head of Unit, you will provide clinical leadership to ensure evidence based approaches to treating persistent pain, provide ongoing education to the hospital on best practice and monitor the quality and safety of the service including the collection and review of eppoc data. The Persistent Pain service sits within the subacute cluster with Rehabilitation Medicine, Ageing and Palliative Care with joint executive, quality and safety and educational meetings. The subacute service is closely aligned with Monash University and the National Centre for Healthy Ageing with its research facility on campus.

 

Position Summary

The Head of Unit, Persistent Pain Services is appointed to provide leadership in the delivery and development of persistent pain services across all sites, and to support and assist the Clinical Director of Sub Acute services at Peninsula Health in the provision of high-quality services. The position carries clinical responsibilities for Outpatient Clinics, Inpatient consultations and Interventional procedures as appropriate as the lead Clinician. The HOU will be encouraged to develop future registrar/fellow training capability within the Faculty of Pain Medicine, and academic research opportunities in conjunction with Monash University.
