The Team & Role
The Adolescent Consultant role supports adolescents and young people with complex physical, developmental, behavioural and psychosocial health concerns in the inpatient and outpatient settings. The clinic provides specialist assessment, management and transition planning for young people moving from childhood into adolescent and adult health services through a holistic, developmentally appropriate and trauma-informed model of care.
The role supports timely and accessible specialist care and promotes multidisciplinary management.
Working within a multidisciplinary team, the Consultant Adolescent Physician collaborates closely with Community Paediatric Fellows, nursing staff, psychologists, social workers, allied health professionals, schools, community agencies and primary care providers to achieve optimal health outcomes for young people. The consultant is expected to provide clinical leadership, supervision, education and mentorship to junior medical staff and trainees.
The clinician will demonstrate expertise in engaging effectively with young people independently, using rapport-building, motivational interviewing and shared decision-making techniques. Familiarity with community services, NDIS, disability supports, Child Protection, safeguarding frameworks and Department of Health referral pathways is essential.
