What You Will Be Doing  

As a peer worker in the Forensic Mental Health in Community Health team you will have a lived experience with Corrections and are responsible for utilising your own history with the criminal justice system and mental health recovery to deliver services assisting people who are currently experiencing mental health challenges while involved in the criminal justice system. The role requires an ability to instil hope and to support individuals to engage in treatment and support services and to anticipate and address psychological, social and financial challenges of re-entry into the community. Forensic peer specialists serve as a community guide, coach and advocate helping people to feel supported to work towards their recovery goals.

What You Need 
We anticipate you will have: 

  • Lived experience with the criminal justice system(i.e. previously placed on a corrections order) and/or the forensic mental health system
  • Qualification equivalent to (or above) Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work and/or similar.
  • Completion of or willingness to complete the Intentional Peer Support (IPS) training.
  • Well-developed communication and listening skills
  • Proficient in using the Microsoft Office (i.e word, excel, email)

*Please refer to Victorian Public Mental Health Services Enterprise Agreement 2020-2024 salary circular for salary range. Sub-grading will be based on years of experience.
