On 1st January 2026, five health services (Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service) will come together to create Bayside Health; a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians.   

The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1st January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health. 

 

The Team & Role 

Pharmacy technicians play a vital role In the delivery of hospital pharmacy services, under the supervision of a pharmacist. They are key members of the multidisciplinary team. The role involves preparing and supplying medicines, liaising with patients and consumers to ensure the effective and safe use of medicines and working with pharmacists and other health professionals to provide timely care to our patients. For Operations services, they play a key role in procurement of medicines, distribution and supply to ward and department areas and maintaining accurate records of procurement and distribution. 

With the recent redevelopment of Peninsula University Hospital, we are excited to offer two new Grade 1 or 2 Pharmacy Technician roles.

The pharmacy technician works under the direct supervision of pharmacists, assisting with the preparation and dispensing of medicines, stock control and replenishment, tablet packing, assisting in the manufacture of medicines and basic clerical functions. A working knowledge of pharmaceutical products and the PBS is preferred. It is expected that all Grade 1 pharmacy technicians will successfully complete an approved Certificate III course in Hospital Pharmacy within 18 months of appointment.

A Grade 2 Pharmacy Technician would have completed an approved Certificate III course in Hospital Pharmacy. The duties and responsibilities include those of a Grade 1 Pharmacy Technician. They must show a keenness to be involved in hospital pharmacy activities, and a willingness to undertake further training to enhance skill and knowledge. They may also assist in the training of new technicians and students.

 Skills and Experience Required 

  • Demonstrated highly developed ability and attitude to be part of a working team
  • Demonstrated general clerical skills including proficiency with computer programs, e.g. Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Demonstrated ability to accept and carry out instructions
  • Hold a Certificate III (or IV) in Hospital or Health Services Pharmacy support (desirable) 
  • Previous experience as a Hospital Pharmacy technician and/or experience in procurement or inventory management (desirable)

*Please refer to Health and Allied Services, Managers and Administrative Workers (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2021-2025 salary circular for salary range. Sub-grading will be based on years of experience.
