The Mental Health and Wellbeing Local

The Mental Health and Wellbeing Local Service is an integrated wellbeing and support service delivered through partnership in Frankston. Operating six days a week with extended hours, we provide clinical support, care, and wellbeing services to people aged 26+ experiencing mental health challenges, including co-occurring substance use or addiction. The service is community-led and co-designed by lived experience, participants, supporters, and the local community. Partners include Wellways, Peninsula Care Group Bayside Health and MENTIS Assist.

The Team & Role

Team: The Senior AOD Clinician will work within the Towards Change multidisciplinary team, comprised of clinicians from a range of nursing and allied health backgrounds including Mental Health Nursing, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Creative Arts Therapy, Exercise Physiology, Dietetics and Neurospychology.

Role: Reporting to the Clinical Lead, the Senior AOD Clinician is responsible for delivering evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions, including both individual and group treatment, to people experiencing alcohol and other drug (AOD) related issues within the Frankston catchment. The role focuses on supporting consumers to achieve meaningful, person-centred outcomes such as reduced AOD use and related harms, improved mental wellbeing and enhanced quality of life.

The Senior AOD Clinician works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to provide integrated, recovery-oriented care. This includes coordinating care and maintaining strong partnerships with tertiary mental health services, AOD services, GPs and other community health organisations to ensure consumers receive connected and holistic support.

As a senior member of the team, the role provides clinical leadership through advanced clinical practice, secondary consultation, clinical supervision and mentoring to other staff. The position also contributes to service quality and safety initiatives, supports the Clinical Lead with operational responsibilities, and leads quality improvement and service development projects aligned with Victorian mental health reform priorities.

The role requires a strong commitment to recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, culturally safe and lived experience-informed practice. While based within Frankston Local, the position may be required to work flexibly across sites and programs to meet service demand.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Allied Health/Registered Nurse or eligible for registration with relevant governing body
  • Minimum of 4 years AOD and mental health experience
  • Completed Certificate IV Alcohol & Other Drugs / Skillset (core competencies) or near completed higher postgraduate studies in AOD
  • Demonstrated understanding of harm reduction opioid replacement treatment. and other pharmacotherapies
  • Demonstrated understanding and skill providing evicence based psychotherapeutic interventions
  • Practice in accordance with the Peninsula Care Framework.
  • Maintain evidence of continuing professional development relevant to scope of practice 
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to work within a multidisciplinary framework
  • A current Victorian Drivers Licence
  • Competency in utilising computer technology
