On 1 January 2026 five health services (Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service) will come together to create Bayside Health. A newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians.

The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

What You Will Be Doing

As a Senior Consumer Peer Worker your role is a designated Lived Experience role, based within the Mental Health and Wellbeing Service Adult and Older Adult Acute Inpatient Units.

The inpatient units provides short-term, specialist mental health care to people who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness. Care is provided using a holistic and person-centred approach that is delivered within a recovery-based framework. 

The unit provides an all-inclusive, safe, and secure environment for voluntary and compulsory clients during their stay and is comprised of low dependency and high dependency beds along with several communal indoor and outdoor spaces where consumers can relax, attend groups, and focus on their recovery

What You Need
 We anticipate you will have:

  • Must have, be willing to declare and work from a lived experience of mental health concerns or crisis / suicidal or psychological distress, and /or co-occurring AOD/MH and firsthand experience of using/trying to access mental health services for support during experiences of a mental health crisis. Lived experience of accessing or trying to access treatment, care and support from a tertiary Mental Health Service is highly desirable.  
  • Minimum 3-4 years’ experience in a Peer Worker role / Senior Peer Worker in a multidisciplinary team at a Mental Health and Wellbeing Service – with experience of delivering peer support within a AMHWS, clinical setting within a mutli-disciplinary team in a reform context being highly desirable  
  • Must have demonstrated experience in the intentional application and skilful use of lived experience as a specialised knowledge base and expertise 
  • Have relevant Peer Work Discipline qualification/ training (i.e., Certificate IV in Peer Work, IPS or similar minimum) 
  • Experience in facilitating co-reflection, discipline specific supervision is highly desirable and commitment to ongoing training, learning and development to support and foster cultivation of our peer workforce.  
  • Experience in supporting non-Lived Experience workforce to build their knowledge of and/or support integration of lived experience workforce within multidisciplinary workforces to work foster partnership approaches is highly desirable.  
  • Demonstrated understanding of current Victorian Mental Health Service System and broader health and social services in the local community context.
