 On 1st January 2026, five health services (Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service) will come together to create Bayside Health; a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians.   

  The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1st January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health. 

 

The Team & Role 

A Paediatric Surgeon is required work alongside the existing paediatric surgeon. The Surgeon has access to regular theatre time, with both elective and emergency lists, and outpatient clinics. Peninsula Health is committed to encouraging and fostering an environment of continued learning and skill development. The surgeon would have access to financial and leave support for continuing medical education activities.  

  • Assist the Paediatric Surgery Head of Unit, Director of Surgery and Deputy Director of Surgery with the following tasks:
    • the management of emergency and elective demand
    • Contribute to Paediatric Surgery Unit quality improvement activities, include audit and Morbidity/Mortality Meetings
    • monitoring and maintenance of standards of medical practice within Paediatric Surgery
  • Facilitate and participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, training and research.
  • Actively supervise registrars and other junior medical staff and provide feedback and perform appraisals
  • Role model fair and courteous behavior in all interactions
  • Develop and build relationships, foster spirit of co-operation and trust in all dealings with other Departments.
  • At all times act in a manner which positively represents Peninsula Health.

Skills & Experience Required 

 
  • Successful completion of FRACS 2nd part exam/FRACS(or equivalent) in Paediatric Surgery
  • Registration with AHPRA
  • MBBS degree
  • Ensure familiarity with the expected standards of performance in the role and actively contribute to own personal development.
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of and adherence to standards and legislation relevant to the role (such as Child Safe Standards, Aged Care Act etc) and actively promote compliance to any such standards and legislation
  • Undertake any additional tasks as requested that reasonably fall within the scope of the position and classification
