Bayside Health was formed following the merger of Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health, Gippsland Southern Health Service, Kooweerup Regional Health Service and Peninsula Health on 1 January 2026.

 

The Team & Role

 

Bayside Health Peninsula Care Group delivers surgical services to public patients at two sites: Frankston Hospital and Frankston Public Surgical Centre.  Frankston Hospital operates 10 operating rooms, including a dedicated Emergency Theatre and an interventional Vascular suite. Bayside Health Peninsula Care Group also provides care at Frankston Public Surgical Centre through five operating rooms, including one endoscopy theatre.

 

The General Surgery department at Bayside Health Peninsula Care Group has three subspecialty elective units (Upper GI, Colorectal & Breast & Endocrine) and an Acute General Surgery Unit (AGSU). The successful candidate will be appointed to General Surgery 1 - the upper gastrointestinal and general surgery unit and also to the acute general surgery unit Bayside Health Peninsula Care Group also has surgical units in Orthopaedics, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Gynaecology & Obstetrics, Thoracic Surgery, Ear Nose & Throat Surgery, FacioMaxilliary Surgery and Urology.

 

General Surgery has 16 General Surgeons and 1 General Surgery Fellow. The successful applicant will be assigned regular theatre sessions and outpatient clinics as well as clinical support time as per the relevant award. Attendance at departmental morbidity and mortality meetings and all unit meetings and ward rounds, including MDTs, is expected.

Skills & Experience Required

 

  • MBBS degree (or equivalent)
  • FRACS (or equivalent) and current CPD certification
  • Current registration with AHPRA as a medical practitioner
  • Post-fellowship ANZGOSA training (or equivalent)
  • Sound clinical knowledge, skills and experience in contemporary medical and evidence-based practice
  • Commitment to customer service
  • Demonstrated initiative and self-direction
