What You Will Be Doing 

The Diversional Therapy team is responsible for the development and implementation of diversional therapy and activity programs for patients admitted to The Mornington Centre. The Mornington Centre is a 90 bed inpatient facility which provides Geriatric Evaluation and Management (Subacute) Services to older people with a range of health conditions. Diversional therapy at The Mornington Centre offers a specialised activity program for patients with age related cognitive impairment including dementia, delirium and depression. The Diversional Therapy team encourages promotion of a person’s retained cognitive ability and physical function, reducing isolation and creating a calm, supportive environment. Programs include orientation, positive sensory stimulation and engagement in meaningful occupation through social and creative group activities and 1:1 person centred activities.

The Leisure and Lifestyle Assistants deliver the Diversional Therapy program with the support of the Grade 2 Diversional Therapy Program Occupational Therapist and Site Senior Occupational Therapist.

What You Need  

We anticipate you will have:  

• Certificate IV qualification in Leisure and Lifestyle Assistance or equivalent

• Demonstrated ability to deliver programs to older adults with dementia, cognitive impairment and changed behaviour.

• Ability to work with individuals and groups utilising diversional and meaningful activities based on patient needs and preferences.

• Ability to contribute to patient care plans as part of the multidisciplinary team

• Ability to determine patient interests and needs and monitor their progress

• Computer Literacy and ability to use electronic medical records

• Highly motivated, enthusiastic and committed to working with older adults

*Please refer to salary circular for Allied Health Professionals (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2021 – 2026 for salary range. Sub-grading will be based on years of experience.
