The Team and Role
The Mornington Community Mental Health Case Management Team provides community-based, recovery-oriented mental health support to people living across the Mornington Peninsula. The team works collaboratively to support people’s recovery, strengths and self-determined goals within their local communities.
As the Senior Consumer Peer Worker, you will provide lived experience leadership and discipline guidance within a community case management setting. You will work alongside clinicians and peer workers to strengthen recovery-oriented, trauma-informed and rights-based approaches to care, while supporting the sustainability and integrity of peer practice.
This role is intentionally designed to prioritise peer practice leadership, workforce support and role-modelling of sustainable lived experience practice. Direct consumer support is a purposeful and negotiated component of the role, enabling authentic role-modelling while maintaining a primary focus on leadership responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
Provide senior peer leadership through Consumer Perspective Supervision (CPS), facilitation of co‑reflection, and discipline‑specific support to peer workers.
Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, contributing lived experience insights to care planning, and decision-making.
Provide selective, mutually agreed one-to-one peer support to consumers grounded in hope, recovery and self-determination.
Advocate for recovery-oriented, rights-based and least-restrictive approaches to service delivery.
Contribute to service improvement, co-design and the ongoing development of lived experience practice within community mental health services.
Support peer workforce wellbeing, reflective practice and psychologically safe ways of working.
Skills and Experience Required
Essential
Personal lived experience of mental health challenges and recovery.
Demonstrated experience working as a consumer peer worker in a mental health setting.
Experience providing mentoring, supervision or leadership support to peer workers.
Strong understanding of recovery-oriented, trauma-informed and rights-based practice.
Ability to work collaboratively and with influence within multidisciplinary community mental health teams.
Desirable
Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or equivalent qualification.
Training in Lived Experience Practice Supervision and/or Intentional Peer Support.
Experience contributing to service development, evaluation or co-design initiatives.
