Paediatric Consultant - Leave Cover

Parental Leave Cover – 14 December 2026 to 28 March 2027, 23.25hrs per week
Sabbatical Leave Cover – 28 September to 29 January 2027, 7 hours per week

The Team & Role

Peninsula University Hospital (Frankston) have two upcoming vacancies for Consultant Leave Cover:

One opportunity currently exists for leave cover of an Acute General Paediatric Consultant on the ward duty roster with on-call responsibilities with Outpatient Paediatric clinics on a Monday and a Tuesday school-based clinic.

14 December 2026 to 28 March 2027, 23.25hrs per week
The successful applicant would need to be available to work 4 consecutive days every 7th week and one weekend (Friday to Sunday) every 7 weeks (approximately).

The second opportunity exists for leave cover of an Acute General Paediatric Consultant on the ward duty roster with on-call responsibilities with Outpatient Paediatric clinic cover as rostered.

28 September to 29 January 2027, 7 hours per week
The successful applicant would need to be available to work 4 consecutive days every 7th week and one weekend (Friday to Sunday) every 7 weeks (approximately).

Frankston Hospital has a 12 bed Children’s Ward and 12 bed Special Care Unit, with most acute admissions through the Emergency Departments at Frankston and Rosebud Hospitals. There is 24-hour Registrar cover. However, the successful applicant needs to be available for emergencies with the neonatal and paediatric settings within 30-minute timeframe from call to bedside.

The successful candidate would be expected to work independently and to provide supervision to junior paediatric staff including HMOs and registrars. Clinicians imminently due to be awarded the Fellowship (FRACP) are welcome to apply. Mentoring is available for suitable early career appointees.

Skills & Experience Required

Medical Practitioner Registered in Australia
FRACP (General Paediatrics)
Recent completion of APLS and/ or neonatal resuscitation courses
Sound clinical knowledge, skills and experience in contemporary medical and evidence-based practice relevant to variety of medical conditions.
Knowledge of developmental milestones in the paediatric population
Knowledge of mandated requirements in terms of child protection issues
Excellent communication skills
Broad knowledge of General Paediatric medical conditions
Ability to liaise with allied health professionals as well as other agencies.
Patient safety and quality review knowledge and skills
Leadership and time management skills
Supervision of paediatric trainees – both AT and BT in either community paediatrics or general paediatrics
Mentoring and teaching Junior Medical Staff and medical students
