Bayside Health was formed following the merger of Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health, Gippsland Southern Health Service, Kooweerup Regional Health Service and Peninsula Health on 1 January 2026. 

  

The Team & Role 

Paediatric clinicians at Peninsula University Hospital (PUH) manage patients with a diverse range of presentations and the expanding population means that this is an increasingly busy unit. Clinicians also oversee a busy Level 4 SCN and engage in community and/or outpatient clinics. A range of on-site Paediatric subspecialty clinician access is also available. The Acute Paediatrician is part of a dynamic acute on-call team that responds to and attends deliveries including theatre and referrals from the Emergency Department. A Paediatric Emergency Department is scheduled to be opened in 2026.

 

As part of the ongoing expansion of Paediatric services at Peninsula University Hospital (Frankston), the opportunity currently exists for Paediatric Neonatologist Consultant(s) to join a rapidly growing team.

These individuals should be interested in the opportunity to build services in their subspecialty going forward.

 

This position is based at the brand new Peninsula University Hospital (Frankston). The successful applicant provides consultant cover to the 12 bed Children’s Ward and 12 bed Special Care Unit and Admissions from the Emergency Department. There is 24 hour Registrar cover but the applicant needs to be available for paediatric and neonatal emergencies within 30 minute timeframe.

 

The candidate would need to demonstrate clear communication skills and a commitment to working with allied health professionals across many disciplines, including Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists and Physiotherapists. The clinician would also need to be familiar with the provision of services through NDIS providers as well as liaising with DFFH and other community and school services.

Clinicians imminently due to be awarded the Fellowship (FRACP) are welcome to apply. Mentoring is available for early career appointees.

Skills & Experience Required 

  • Registerable as a Specialist Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Fellowship of Royal Australasian College of Physicians (SAC in General Paediatrics) or equivalent higher specialist qualification
  • Recent completion of APLS and/ or neonatal resuscitation courses
  • Sound clinical knowledge, skills and experience in contemporary medical and evidence based practice relevant to variety of medical conditions.
  • Knowledge of developmental milestones in the paediatric population
  • Knowledge of mandated requirements in terms of child protection issues
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication skills, including timely keeping of comprehensive medical records  
  • Broad knowledge of General Paediatric medical conditions
  • Ability to work autonomously, as part of a multidisciplinary team and in collaboration with other service providers.
