What You Will Be Doing
The Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 3 is a community clinician within the Intensive Recovery Team (IRT), providing intensive mental health nursing assessment, treatment and care coordination for adults experiencing severe and complex mental illness. The team supports consumers at risk of recurrent acute episodes and associated hospital admissions who require more intensive therapeutic intervention in the community.
The nurse manages an allocated caseload and works with consumers, families, carers and the multidisciplinary team to develop and review individual recovery plans. Care is delivered through assertive outreach and flexible engagement in home, community and clinical settings. The role combines therapeutic nursing care, medication administration and monitoring, physical health care and coordinated access to services, using recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, culturally safe and least restrictive approaches.
What You Need
We anticipate you will have:
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia through AHPRA.
- Completed mental health nursing qualification, such as a postgraduate qualification in psychiatric or mental health nursing, or a specialist undergraduate psychiatric or mental health nursing program.
- Demonstrated mental health nursing experience in acute inpatient and/or community mental health settings, with clinical knowledge and skills commensurate with a Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 3 role.
- Demonstrated ability to assess, plan, provide and evaluate care for people with severe mental illness, including risk assessment, crisis intervention and recovery planning.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in safe psychotropic medication administration, monitoring and physical health assessment within nursing scope of practice.
- Working knowledge of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022, relevant professional standards and the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards, and ability to apply relevant legislation and policies.
- Effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Current Victorian driver licence and capacity to undertake community outreach and travel across service sites as required.
