The Team & Role 

The Senior Respiratory Scientist Grade 3 is a senior scientific role within the Thoracic Medicine Department, providing advanced clinical, technical and professional expertise in respiratory and lung function testing. Working with a high level of independence and professional judgement, the role undertakes specialised diagnostic testing, contributes to research and clinical trials, and supports the ongoing development and quality assurance of the lung function laboratory and associated services.

The position functions as Deputy to the Head Scientist (Laboratory Manager Grade 4) and provides leadership support to ensure continuity of service delivery. This includes acting on behalf of the Laboratory Manager during periods of leave or as delegated, assisting with operational oversight, workflow coordination and staff support.

Skills & Experience Required

  • A recognised science degree or equivalent qualification eligible for employment as a Medical Scientist.
  • Successful completion of ANZSRS competency assessments, with demonstrated competence in respiratory function testing.
  • Ability to work independently and unsupervised, with responsibility for all aspects of respiratory function assessment, including performance of complex and specialised investigations requiring advanced knowledge and technical judgement.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in the respiratory field, demonstrating progressive responsibility, advanced technical practice and contribution to laboratory operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist in the management of a respiratory function laboratory, including operational planning, workflow coordination and service delivery.
