The Team & Role

As a Senior Consumer Peer Worker, you will provide local leadership for the lived experience peer workforce within the Mental Health and Wellbeing Crisis and Assessment Team (MHW CATT).  The MHW CATT provides community based comprehensive mental health crisis assessment, treatment care and support to people who may be experiencing significant psychological and suicidal distress during a mental health crisis which requires more intensive, time-limited support from a tier 5 Area Mental Health and Wellbeing Service.  

Your lived experience and expertise; practice knowledge and leadership will be critical in:

  • Providing intentional and meaningful peer support to people who may be experiencing a mental health crisis, leading trauma-informed de-escalation supports, addressing power imbalances by building mutuality and hope, fostering connections where healing and recovery begins
  • Working alongside our multidisciplinary team to ensure trauma informed, dialogical, rights-based and relational approaches to treatment, care and supports to foster people's agency, promote collaboration and co-creating safety together
  • Supporting and empowering individuals and their support networks, including families, carers and supporters, to work together, leverage their natural strengths and find meaningful ways forward from a crisis experience
  • Draw on your systems knowledge to support individuals navigating mental health services and broader systems, including advocacy and support to address systemic barriers
  • Leading and mentoring peer workers providing discipline specific supervision and supporting co-reflection, as well as supporting non-designated lived experience workforce in the team to foster understanding and genuine integration of the lived experience discipline and peer work
  • Driving systems change by playing an active role in supporting us to shape, develop and implement the MHW CATT future MOC- anticipated to occur across the next 2-3 years.

Please refer to salary circular for VICTORIAN PUBLIC MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES ENTERPRISE AGREEMENT 2021-2024 for salary range. Sub-grading will be based on years of experience.
