The Mental Health and Wellbeing Local

The Frankston Local operates six days a week, with extended operating hours to support a flexible and responsive service. The Local Service model will provide an integrated treatment, care and wellbeing support response for consumers experiencing a mental health challenge and co-occurring substance use or addiction and their family members or carers. This approach will improve capacity of individuals to engage in our community and respond to any future psychological distress.

The Mental Health Locals are a big and important step towards ensuring all Victorians – no matter their experience – get valuable and supportive mental health care in their community. In Frankston, Wellways, Mentis Assist and Peninsula Health are working together to provide innovative, mental health and wellbeing supports to ensure everyone can access treatment and care closer to home.

The new Frankston Mental Health Local will provide welcoming and inclusive support for people aged 26 years and over who are experiencing mental health challenges, including people with co-occurring alcohol and drug addiction treatment and care needs.


What You Will Be Doing 

  • This role is part of the Towards Change Team, a multidisciplinary clinical team working alongside the Support and Connect Team, and the Building Community Capacity Team.
  • Within a defined scope of practice, provides mental health interventions and supports to Frankston Local participants.
  • Works collaboratively with a range of clinical and non-clinical community mental health professionals to create and provide the best possible mental health service at the Frankston Local.
  • Provides Leadership in the delivery of clinical intervention including the consideration of risk.

What You Need 

We anticipate you will have: 

  • Registered Nurse, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist or Clinical Psychologist with relevant registration RPN ONLY: Post graduate qualification in Mental Health or specialist undergraduate Mental Health program.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the mental health field in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated Leadership experience
  • Demonstrated effective time management. 
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with participants with a major mental illness and/or AOD concerns and in the techniques of assessment, therapeutic intervention and the recovery model.

*Please refer to Victorian Public Mental Health Services Enterprise Agreement 2020-2024 salary circular for salary range. Sub-grading will be based on years of experience.
