On 1 January 2026 five health services (Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service) will come together to create Bayside Health. A newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians.

The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

What You Will Be Doing 

The Grade 2 Social Worker is required to provide quality care to consumers through competent clinical skills, effective communication, and active participation within a multidisciplinary team environment. Additionally, the Social Worker will provide leadership and support to social workers within the mental health service, including the supervision of Grade 1 Social Workers and Social Work students.

The designated area of clinical responsibility and the role in supervision of other Social Workers and students are determined by Senior Clinicians based on clinical expertise and operational requirements.

Escalation in cases of patient deterioration, risk to patient and/or Peninsula Health or clinical matters outside the Grade 2 scope of practice is, in the first instance, via the relevant Grade 3 Social Worker/Nurse Unit manager.

Position Descripton

What You Need

We anticipate you will have:

  • Degree in social work or Master of Social Work
  • Member of or eligibility for membership of, the AASW.
  • Minimum two years post-qualifying professional experience in a hospital or related setting
  • Clinical understanding of the treatment for mental illness provided in in-patient and community settings, and working knowledge of community support services
  • Excellent skills in comprehensive assessments, discharge planning and counselling
  • Advanced demonstrated knowledge and application of Social Work theory and recovery-oriented practice in mental health care
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise staff and/ or students.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022,  and the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards, including Equip and National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards
